Waiheke Island
Things to do and remember
A few quick tips from the punters...
The Island, names and other stuff
There are 3 places to remember on Waiheke that will help you find your
way around the island. But they all start with O.
Oneroa (Onny-roe-a)
The soul of Waiheke, full of cafes, art galleries and things to do. Mudbrick
and many other wineries are close by.
Onetangi (Onner - tangi)
The heart of waiheke. Plenty of places to do a big shop if staying on the island. Plenty of other commerical and industrial places as well. Pretty boring from a tourist point of view though.
Orapiu (Ore-a-puu) AKA Jacksonvile
This is on the furthest side of the isand (bottom right) and is where we will be getting married. It is a 30-45 minute drive from Oneroa. The Jackson residence is a few hundred meters from the "Orapiu Jetty". While there aren't many shop out here, there are plenty of good wineries and some beautiful sceneary. The roads are extremely narrow and windy.
There is also another sweet-as place called Ostend, they have markets on a Saturday morning. Conventiently there is a TAB and a pie shop nearby for the guys.
